Miguel Almiron is reportedly set to be dropped from the Newcastle United team for the Leicester City game this weekend after failing to impress manager Steve Bruce.

The Paraguayan international has featured in all six of the Toon's games this season but he is yet to register a goal or an assist and was substituted early against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend after a poor performance.

The 25-year-old became the club's record signing when he joined from MLS side Atlanta United in January for £21m, although that sum was surpassed in the summer by the deal to bring striker Joelinton to St James' Park from Hoffenheim.

The Daily Star reports that Bruce does see a future for Almiron at the club, though, with his pace a key weapon in Bruce's counter-attacking philosophy. However, with the player's confidence so low, he wants to take him out of the firing line.

The report also suggests that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss will make a number of changes for Sunday's trip to Leicester City, with Federico Fernandez, Ki Sung-Yueng and Sean Longstaff all in line for recalls.
