USA legend Landon Donovan has backed New York City FC boss Patrick Vieira to be a success in the MLS - providing that he surrounds himself with the right people.
The 39-year-old replaced Jason Kreis earlier this month for what will be his first job in senior management, but Donovan says that with the help of director of football Claudio Reyna, the ex-Arsenal midfielder can leave his mark.
"I know he has done well here at Manchester City," the 33-year-old told The Mirror of Vieira, who spent two years as the Sky Blues' Elite Development squad manager.
"If he surrounds himself with people that can help him adapt and adjust to the rules of the league, then I think he will do fantastic. I think that's where a lot of foreign managers have actually not done well in Major League Soccer because it's not easy.
"There are a lot of restrictions. If you want to go and buy three players you can't just go and do it. But I think if he surrounds himself with good people, which I think he will with Claudio Reyna being there, and perhaps others, then I think he'll do well."
Vieira won 12 major trophies at club level, along with winning the World Cup in 1998 and Euro 2000 with France, for whom he made 107 appearances.
