Sunday's World Cup last-16 clash in Fortaleza pitted Netherlands against Mexico.
Neither side could break the deadlock in what was a fairly laboured opening 45 minutes in the searing heat.
Mexico were ahead in the early stages of the second period courtesy of Giovani dos Santos, but Wesley Sneijder levelled late on to seemingly send the match into extra-time.
There was time for Netherlands to win it, however, with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's stoppage-time penalty sending Louis van Gaal's side into the next round.
