How Manchester United could line up with Jadon Sancho, Declan Rice

With Manchester United being heavily linked with a move for Jadon Sancho and Declan Rice, Sports Mole takes a look at where the pair could feature at Old Trafford.

Despite Manchester United's continued run of inconsistent results, it has been suggested that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under no pressure to keep his job at Old Trafford.

Instead, club officials have allegedly been taking guidance from the Norwegian ahead of attempting to make significant additions during the summer transfer window.

Solskjaer is said to have outlined a three-man wishlist, which includes Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

While two-and-a-half years remain on his contract with the Bundesliga giants, Sancho is expected to leave the Westfalenstadion in the summer, with United one of the few teams who are able to meet his valuation, said to be in the region of £100m.

Meanwhile, Rice currently finds himself playing in a struggling West Ham side, who may have to cash in on the academy graduate to help fund their latest overhaul of the squad before the start of next season.

Here, Sports Mole predicts how United could line up if they are successful with their efforts to sign the English duo.

As far as Sancho is concerned, he would almost certainly feature on the right flank, with Daniel James going from a first-team regular to an impact substitute.

However, there would be the potential for Sancho to switch flanks with Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial, depending on whom Solskjaer opts to play down the middle.

There would also be scope for the trio to regularly switch roles, even if it means Sancho temporarily occupying a position down the centre during matches.

Despite the suggestion of Rice eventually becoming a central defender, Solskjaer may deem that he is the perfect fit for the role in front of the back four.

That would provide Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams with more freedom to advance further forward from full-back, while Scott McTominay would be more inclined to support the attack.

Should Sancho and Rice arrive at Old Trafford, a probable combined cost in the region of £170m would likely result in United deciding to cash in on Paul Pogba.

With that in mind, Fred would currently be used as the other player in a three-man midfield, although that would change should either Bruno Fernandes or James Maddison make the switch to the Premier League giants.
