Manchester City team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Manchester United

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup fixture with Manchester United.

Manchester City play host to neighbours Manchester United on Wednesday night looking to move through to the EFL Cup final.

After recording a 3-1 victory in the first leg of this semi-final tie at Old Trafford, Pep Guardiola will expect his team to move one step closer to defending the trophy which they have won on the last two occasions.

City warmed up for this contest with a 4-0 triumph over Fulham in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday afternoon.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the derby showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

After spending the season on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, Sane is said to be closing in on a return to action. However, the Germany international is not in contention for this game.

Aymeric Laporte

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Fatigue
Possible return date: January 29 (vs. Man United)

After making his comeback from a serious knee injury against Sheffield United last week, Laporte missed out on Sunday due to fatigue. Despite his importance to the squad, Laporte may not be risked by Guardiola on Wednesday night.

Riyad Mahrez

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: January 29 (vs. Man United)

Mahrez picked up a knock during the win over Fulham, with Guardiola acknowledging that the playmaker is now a doubt for the upcoming derby showdown. Should he be able to shake off the injury, the Algerian is likely to be among the replacements.

Joao Cancelo

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: January 29 (vs. Man United)

Cancelo was another City man who picked up a knock against the Cottagers. While Mahrez is in line to be involved, Guardiola has suggested that the right-back may struggle to recover in time for Wednesday evening.

MAN CITY'S SUSPENSION LIST

City have no suspension concerns ahead of this encounter.
