Manchester United duo David de Gea and Anthony Martial are reportedly using Alexis Sanchez's lucrative contract as a guide in their own negotiations with the club.

David de Gea and Anthony Martial are reportedly using Alexis Sanchez's wages as a guide in their own negotiations over a new deal with Manchester United.

Sanchez joined United from Arsenal in January, with the Red Devils luring him to Old Trafford with a lucrative deal which sees him earn £400,000 per week and a further £75,000 for every appearance.

The 20-time champions of England are in the process of trying to tie De Gea and Martial down to new contracts at the moment, but The Mirror reports that they are having trouble due to Sanchez's hefty earnings.

The Chilean's terms have increased the demands of other players, with De Gea thought to be holding out for a £300,000-a-week offer in order to reflect his status as one of the world's best goalkeepers.

Martial, meanwhile, is understood to have rejected one offer from United already despite the club being willing to double his £70,000 wages.

Both players have contracts which expire next summer, but which also have an option to extend them by a further 12 months.
