Virgil van Dijk reportedly tells Southampton that he remains determined to leave the club amid interest from Liverpool.

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk reportedly remains keen to leave after holding fresh talks with the club.

After being left out of Mauricio Pellegrino's squad for a pre-season trip to France, the Dutchman discussed his future with the Saints this week.

It is believed that the club were hoping that the defender would relax his stance and reintegrate himself back into the squad, but according to the Daily Echo, nothing has changed.

The report claims that Van Dijk still wants to leave, but Southampton remain determined to keep him, which leaves the situation at an impasse.

It has been widely reported that Liverpool is the 26-year-old's club of choice.
