Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Liverpool on Tuesday, July 28.

The buildup to the summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Liverpool eye possible reinforcements.

Jurgen Klopp's league leaders have not been particularly busy during recent windows, but that has not stopped the rumour mill from linking them with additions.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Anfield.

Tuesday morning's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup:

Jurgen Klopp unconcerned by Liverpool squad size

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to retain a lean squad to ensure they remain competitive next season.

The Reds boss used 24 players for their record-breaking Premier League title win and run to the last 16 of the Champions League.

All but four outfield players contributed at least one goal in either competition with youngsters Harvey Elliott and Neco Williams and January signing Takumi Minamino having limited opportunities. Joe Gomez was the only senior player who had a full season not to find the net.

Klopp gave chances to some of the club's academy players in the FA and Carabao Cups to cope with fixture congestion but believes keeping as small a core as possible keeps the players on their toes.

"The solution cannot be to have a much bigger squad for the specific moment and then realise you cannot use all the players," said the manager, who sent his players off on a well-deserved two-week holiday with a reminder of their responsibilities to keep on top of the latest coronavirus travel guidance and potential quarantine restrictions.

"These players can only play the football they play because they know they are needed.

"They are all human beings and nobody can be held back for a year and then on the last day of the year be told, 'Now we need you.'

"In between now and then there must be a lot of training and support and challenges stuff like this.

"We cannot keep someone in the backyard and bring them up in the decisive moment. That will not help. We will have solutions for that, we have young players.

"The size of the squad is not that important to me, the quality of the squad is very much so."

The sale of Dejan Lovren to Zenit St Petersburg in a Β£10.9million deal and the end of Adam Lallana's contract, plus the likely departure of Xherdan Shaqiri and potentially Divock Origi leaves spaces up for grabs.

Rhian Brewster, on loan at Swansea, looks set to be integrated into the squad but Klopp is still likely to need to strengthen even if the likes of Curtis Jones, Elliott and Williams play bigger roles.

However, the manager has consistently cautioned about unrealistic expectations in a post-pandemic transfer market.

"Usually we know about the financial funds that we have as much as you can know," he added.

"A few weeks ago nobody knew if we could play Champions League next season again. Can you count on the money of the Champions League and how much will it be?

"That is all uncertain and that is what we consider because we are not only responsible for the success of the club, we are responsible for all the people at the club and that means everyone who is working here.

"As long as we don't know exactly about things, we have to wait. We have a really good squad, we have to see what we can do, we have to see what have to do, we need still more time.

"Time will hopefully bring a bit more clarity about the future and then we will make our decisions."

With the potential for travel regulations to change overnight, as was the case with Spain at the weekend, Klopp issued a warning to his players as they headed off on holiday.

"We had this talk. It is like a conversation without a solution to be honest, the thing is it's an open process which we all have to respect in the moment," he said.

"The boys can go on holiday and we know from everybody where they will go, and it's all OK – these countries are all completely fine – but there's the little extra that the situation can change, constantly.

"So now this is the responsibility of the boys. They have to follow the news, and then you have to react. It is not our job, to say 'Maybe Spain close the border again', or whatever.

"We will do as much as we can to help, but they need to be aware of the situation as well."

Adam Lallana completes Brighton switch after leaving Liverpool

Brighton have completed the signing of midfielder Adam Lallana from Liverpool.

The 32-year-old was out of contract at Liverpool after joining in 2014 from Southampton and returns to the south coast having agreed a three-year contract with the Seagulls.

Brighton boss Graham Potter told the club's official website: "Adam is a really exciting signing for us, someone I'm sure the supporters will be really looking forward to seeing play as and when things are able to begin to return to normal.

"To have both his experience and quality out on the pitch will be a great addition for us, and I know he will be an excellent role model for our younger players in the squad."

Lallana, who has won 34 senior caps for England, made 22 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season.

He last appeared for Jurgen Klopp's side in their home win against Bournemouth in March – their last Premier League game before the season was suspended.

The former Southampton midfielder was a Champions League winner with Liverpool last season and helped the club end their 30-year wait for an English top-flight title last month.

Lallana has made 196 Premier League appearances in total, scoring 30 goals, and appeared for England in both the 2014 World Cup and 2016 European Championships.

As well as the Champions League, Lallana has won the FIFA World Club Championship and European Super Cup with Liverpool.

He also won back-to-back promotions with Southampton from League One to the Premier League starting in 2012.

Potter added: "There is no doubting Adam's quality, and if you look at his footballing CV his ability is clear for everyone to see.

"He has played at the very highest level, for both club and country, and achieved great things. He has a wealth of experience alongside his technical quality.

"The honours he won during his time at Liverpool, and the high regard in which he is held at Anfield, only further underline his ability and character."
