Everton manager Ronald Koeman talks up the importance of the Europa League following his side's progression into the qualifying playoffs.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has talked up the importance of the Europa League for his side following their 2-0 aggregate victory over MFK Ruzomberok in qualifying.

The Toffees scraped a 1-0 victory over the Slovakian outfit at Goodison Park last week before completing the job this evening as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the only goal of the game.

Koeman hinted that he could use the 20-year-old as part of a front two in the future following his cool finish, having injected some much-needed pace into Everton's otherwise laboured attack.

"Maybe Dominic feels a bit more comfortable as one of two strikers. He's strong, he's fast and he scored a great goal. It was a physical game and 90 minutes that the players needed. We are through to the next round and I'm really happy," he told reporters.

"This competition has always been important for me. I like to be in Europe - it's important for our experience. It's good for the club, the players and the fans. It's not easy to reach the group stages but we will do everything to get there.

"Two victories, two clean sheets and I think we were better defensively tonight than we were last week. But we know that we can and need to improve in our ball possession. We need create more than we did."

Everton will discover the identity of their opponents in the playoff round tomorrow.
