Result: England Under-21s comeback downs Switzerland Under-21s

Duncan Watmore comes off the bench to inspire England Under-21s to a 3-1 victory over their Swiss counterparts in Brighton.

England Under-21s have moved three points clear in their Euro 2017 qualifying group by coming from behind to a claim a 3-1 win over Switzerland Under-21s in Brighton this evening.

The Three Lions made a dominant start and Solly March fired wide of the post, before John Swift also failed to find the target with his strike.

However, It was the visitors who broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time when Shani Tarashaj raced on to a ball over the top and chipped an effort over Jordan Pickford that found the back of the net, despite Calum Chambers's attempts to clear on the line.

At the start of the second half the Swiss came close again when Denis Zakaria drilled in a low effort towards the near post, but Pickford was able to deal with the threat.

England soon fashioned their best chance of the match when Lewis Baker was teed up on the edge of the box by Nathaniel Chalobah, before crashing a volley just wide of the post.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was next to try his luck with an effort that was turned behind, as Gareth Southgate's men continued to put pressure on their opponents in search of an equaliser.

Duncan Watmore was then brought off the bench for the home side and he almost made an immediate impact with a curling strike that flew narrowly wide of the top corner.

England finally made their pressure count with eight minutes left of the game as James Ward-Prowse scored from the penalty spot, after Watmore had been brought down inside the box by Yvon Nganoma.

It got even better for the hosts just three minutes later as Watmore found space just outside the box, before crashing in a low drive that took a huge deflection on its way past Nganoma before finding the corner.

As the game entered stoppage time Watmore showed his impact once again with a driving run to the byline, before pulling the ball back for Chuba Akpom to slot in a third goal to seal the points for England.
