Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen has insisted that he can cope with the pressure of leading his country into the World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Eriksen heads into the tournament as Denmark's marquee player, as Age Hareide's side aim to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2002.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the 26-year-old said that he is "relaxed" ahead of the country's three group-stage games against Peru, Australia and France.

"I've played a lot for the national team already and I know how the pressure is and I know how to cope with it," Eriksen said. "I'm actually going into the World Cup feeling relaxed and trying to put in some good showings in the big games.

"If they need my goals, I'll help. If they need me with an assist, I'll assist. If it's something else, I'll help with that. We showed in qualification we're a strong team. We're just a team – we don't really have any stars. We just work hard and hopefully we'll play good football.

"We want to have a final against France. The first two games we'll go for the win and see how far we can go. The aim is to hopefully go through the group stages and see who we play after that."

Eriksen, who scored 11 of Denmark's 25 goals in qualifying, has played 78 times for his country.
