Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker says that the first-team squad will feel the benefits of a tough pre-season schedule in Asia.

Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker has said that the Blues will be ready for the Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

The Premier League champions have competed in just three pre-season fixtures - all of which have taken place in Asia - with their remaining match coming against their North London rivals at Wembley Stadium.

However, Baker feels that spending time in a hot climate and playing games against high-quality opposition in the Gunners, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan will benefit them ahead of the new season.

The 22-year-old told the club's official website: "The training has been tough especially in the heat but it's been good for us and we should be ready for the Community Shield now.

"It's a long way to travel but I really enjoyed spending a week in Singapore. It's a nice place, the facilities are good and we've been treated very well."

Baker has spent the last two years on loan at Vitesse, but he is currently trying to impress head coach Antonio Conte in an attempt to earn a place in the Italian's thoughts ahead of the upcoming campaign.
