Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes admits that he is flattered by the interest which has been shown in him by Celtic.

Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes has said that he will "wait and see what happens" regarding interest in his signature from Celtic.

After netting nine times in 33 league games this season, the Republic of Ireland international has been linked with a switch to the Scottish Premiership champions ahead of the next campaign.

Hayes has acknowledged that he has been aware of a potential bid "for a while", but he has reiterated that he will be happy to remain with the Dons should a transfer not materialise during the summer.

The 29-year-old is quoted by the Daily Record as saying: "We've obviously known about it for a while now. There have been a few things developing with the club. It means you are doing something right if somebody else is taking a look.

"You can take it as a compliment. As far as I'm aware I am still an Aberdeen player. I enjoy it there and it's an old cliche but we'll wait and see what happens.

"I just wanted to finish the season with Aberdeen and I signed a new deal there in January."

Hayes has scored 30 goals in 206 outings for Aberdeen since signing on a free transfer in 2012.
