Barcelona forward Lionel Messi's record vs. Sevilla

Sports Mole looks at Barcelona forward Lionel Messi's goalscoring record against Sevilla ahead of Saturday's La Liga contest.

Barcelona travel to Sevilla in La Liga on Saturday afternoon looking to put together an improved run of form in all competitions.

The Catalan giants are unbeaten in their last seven matches, but just one win has been recorded during that period along with two goalless draws.

Barcelona have not scored a goal from open play in over 300 minutes, and Lionel Messi will take on the most responsibility to end that streak this weekend.

Ahead of the meeting at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, Sports Mole assesses how Messi has fared in his previous outings against Sevilla.

Messi has played against Los Rojiblancos on 36 separate occasions, and the Argentine has remarkably contributed 33 goals and 16 assists during those games.

The forward first featured against Sevilla at the end of 2005 but although only one goal came from his first three league appearances, more strikes began to be registered on a regular basis.

Doubles were recorded in four consecutive seasons until 2010, but Messi's only hat-trick against Sevilla in the league came towards the end of 2014.

Another treble was scored in the 2010 SuperCopa Espana, and Messi has made up for a poor scoring record in the Copa del Rey by producing six assists in his last three appearances against Sevilla in that competition.

A total of 27 wins and five draws have come from those 36 matches, with just one defeat coming in 24 La Liga appearances.
