Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano stadium to host 2019 Champions League final

Atletico Madrid's newly-opened Wanda Metropolitano stadium will host the 2019 Champions League final, UEFA has confirmed.

UEFA has confirmed that Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano stadium has been chosen to host the 2019 Champions League final.

Madrid was chosen ahead of Azerbaijan's capital Baku, the only other candidate in the running to stage the match.

Baku's Olympic Stadium will instead stage the Europa League final, while the Besiktas Stadium in Istanbul will stage that year's Super Cup.

Atletico's new 68,000-seater stadium, which only opened on Saturday for their 1-0 La Liga win over Malaga, will stage European club football's biggest game next season on June 1, 2019.

The Spanish capital will become only the second city to have held five or more European Cup finals after London - Real Madrid's Bernabeu hosted the finals in 1957, 1969, 1980 and 2010.
