Atletico Madrid welcomed Malaga to La Rosaleda on Saturday night knowing that a win would move them third in La Liga.
Koke's smart finish in the 26th minute saw Atletico enter the interval with a one-goal advantage.
Filipe Luis then doubled the away side's advantage in the 74th minute as the Madrid outfit moved above Sevilla in the table and closed on second-place Barcelona.
