How Arsenal could line up against Eintracht Frankfurt

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for Thursday's clash with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.

Arsenal will be desperate for a return to winning ways against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Unai Emery's men came under heavy criticism after surrendering a two-goal advantage to draw with Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Gunners will also be looking to expel the demons from their last European outing - a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in the final in Baku.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for the game.

Possible ARS XI vs. FRA

Out: Hector Bellerin (knee), Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin), Kieran Tierney (groin), Alexandre Lacazette (ankle), Rob Holding (knee)
Doubtful: None

Emery has so far opted for David Luiz and Sokratis Papastathopoulos as his defensive duo this season, but the latter's costly mistake against Watford, combined with the increase in fixtures over September, means that the unpopular Shkodran Mustafi is likely to make his first start of the season.

On the left, the Gunners boss has no choice but to once again opt for Sead Kolasinac due to Tierney's continued absence from the squad, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles - one of Arsenal's better players this term - also looks set to keep his place at right-back.

Granit Xhaka, as he often does, came in for criticism on Sunday, but the Arsenal captain's spot in defensive midfield appears safe given that no other concrete options are available.

Further forward, however, changes look likely to be made; Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock have both featured in this competition for Arsenal in recent times and deserve another chance to impress, with the pair fast emerging as the North London side's two most promising academy talents. Matteo Guendouzi should keep his place after Emery brought him off early at Vicarage Road.

Up front, Emery cannot afford to dispense with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has five goals in as many games this season, but may well drop Nicolas Pepe, with the club's record signing from Lille yet to find his feet at the Emirates after not having much of a pre-season.

In his place would be Gabriel Martinelli, the club's first signing of the summer, who is yet to make a start for the Gunners and could announce himself to Arsenal supporters in ideal fashion by scoring against the Bundesliga side.
