ITV reportedly gives the go-ahead for the new series of Love Island to be filmed in Majorca this summer as usual.

ITV has reportedly given the go-ahead for Love Island to be filmed in its usual Majorcan villa this summer.

Although mainland Europe is suffering from a slow rollout of vaccinations and a fresh increase of coronavirus cases, the UK has now vaccinated more than half of its adult population and is on course to lift almost all coronavirus restrictions in the next three months.

According to The Sun, ITV is confident that it can produce Love Island in a safe way abroad and plans to fly out the cast for the new series - including late arrivals, Casa Amor contestants and backups - in May.

Along with the production crew, the contestants will then enter quarantine upon arrival in Majorca before being introduced to the villa, which is effectively a closed set, when the show begins on ITV2 in June.

"Producers have watched shows like Dancing on Ice struggle during the pandemic. They don't want the same fate," a source told the newspaper.

"All precautions have been taken to make sure it goes smoothly. Besides the extra cast, they've incorporated COVID safety measures and increased checks on contestants' mental health.

"Everyone is very excited. Restrictions are easing, the Euros football is on and Love Island is back in Majorca. What more could you want?"

The new series is expected to be on air for two months.
