Charlie Brooker admits that he would have been forced to "say something nice" about Piers Morgan had he included him in his coronavirus edition of Wipe.

Charlie Brooker has admitted that he would have had "to say something nice" about Piers Morgan had he mentioned him in tonight's one-off special Charlie Brooker's Antiviral Wipe.

The Good Morning Britain host has been a long-time divisive figure for his outspoken views and combative interviewing style but appears to have won over a new legion of fans for taking the government to task during the coronavirus crisis.

Brooker resurrected his popular Wipe format tonight for a typically-sardonic take on recent world events and admits that he forgot to include a reference to 'anti-hero' Morgan.

"Oddly, we haven't got any Piers Morgan in the show, that's just occurring to me," he told GQ. "Probably because it would have meant I would have to say something nice about him!

"He's an odd fish, isn't he? Because he obviously thrives on antagonising people, and so when he's antagonising the right people from whatever your viewpoint then he's a bit of a hero.

"I suppose in some ways it's refreshing because he does seem to actually relish being disliked by half the population at any given time."

Brooker also revealed that he left out a segment about ITV's political editor Robert Peston, remarking that when he "starts asking a question at those briefings it's like someone's put on an audiobook".
