Argentina have recorded their first win over England since 2009 courtesy of a shock 30-29 victory at Twickenham this afternoon.

Emiliano Boffelli scored 25 of Los Pumas' points as they picked up a famous triumph to follow on from their encouraging Rugby Championship campaign, which saw them claim the scalps of New Zealand and Australia.

Santiago Carreras went over for Argentina's other try, while Joe Cokanasiga and Jack van Poortvliet crossed over in reply for England.

The rest of England's 19 points came from the boot of Owen Farrell, but it was not enough as they fell one point short in their Autumn Internationals opener, piling more pressure on the shoulders of head coach Eddie Jones.

A series victory in Australia had helped to take some of the scrutiny away from another poor Six Nations campaign, but this result - against the same team they will face in their World Cup opener next year - will raise more questions in the buildup to that tournament.

Argentina showed in this year's Rugby Championship that they are capable of beating the best teams in the world, and they add another feather to their cap under Michael Cheika with a first win over England at Twickenham since 2006, ending a run of 10 straight defeats.

It was two tries in the space of four minutes early in the second half which did the damage for Argentina, who overturned a 16-12 half-time deficit in the second 40.

Van Poortvliet touched down one minute after coming on as a sub, but a Boffelli penalty in the 68th minute nudged the tourists in front, and they held onto that slender one-point lead until the end.

Argentina secured the victory despite giving up the lion's share of possession and territory, with England's lack of discipline helping Los Pumas capitalise on their relatively rare trips into the England half.

England will look to bounce back from this defeat against Japan next week, while Argentina will hope to make it back-to-back wins when they face Wales.
