Preview: Wrexham vs. Yeovil Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Wrexham and Yeovil Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wrexham play host to Yeovil Town on Tuesday evening with the opportunity to move into third position in the National League standings.

However, Yeovil, who possess a game in hand on their hosts, will move to within two points of the Welsh outfit with victory at the Racecourse Ground.

While Wrexham have naturally benefitted from the bigger profile in the media over the past few months, they are still a club who needs to find a way to earn promotion back to the EFL.

However, the signs are there that Phil Parkinson's squad are up to the task, the Dragons having won four of their last five matches to close the gap on the pacesetters.

The late 2-1 victory at Halifax Town last week could prove key, and Wrexham backed that result up with a 2-0 win over fellow rivals Bromley on Saturday afternoon.

Parkinson's side took full advantage of Bromley being reduced to 10 men as early as the ninth minute, Paul Mullin netting his ninth goal of the campaign to seal the three points.

On paper, Wrexham's next three fixtures look favourable, but they face another team in Yeovil who have collected 14 points from a possible 18.

After a run of four defeats over the same amount of games, Yeovil have required such a contrasting period to move clear of the relegation zone, their focus now on trying to break into the top seven.

The 1-1 draw at bottom-of-the-table outfit Dover Athletic on Saturday came as a huge disappointment, Darren Sarll's team requiring a 78th-minute equaliser to avoid a surprise defeat.

Nevertheless, they will still be satisfied with having returned to the top half of the standings, sitting just 11 points behind leaders Chesterfield with a game in hand.

The Glovers need more in the final third, however, with 12 matches having passed by without scoring more than two goals during 90 minutes.

Team News

Aaron Hayden remains a doubt for Wrexham after the defender missed the win over Bromley through illness.

With Shaun Brisley also dropping down to the substitutes' bench for that game, Parkinson may stick with the same backline.

Jordan Ponticelli is expected to replace the injured Dan Jarvis, with Mullin playing in a deeper position.

Sarll will almost certainly make a number of changes to his Yeovil side after the frustration of the Dover game.

Morgan Williams, Alex Bradley and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton appear most likely to be drafted into the starting lineup.

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Lainton; French, Tozer, Lennon; Hall-Johnson, Young, Davies, Hosannah; Mullin; Hyde, Ponticelli

Yeovil Town possible starting lineup:
Smith; Moss, Wilkinson, Williams, Barnett; Worthington, Staunton; Wakefield, Lo-Everton, Knowles; Yussuf

We say: Wrexham 2-1 Yeovil Town

With the two form teams in the division going head to head, all three results are possible on Tuesday night. However, we feel that home advantage could prove key, with the Welsh side being spurred on to prevail by the odd goal in three.
