Paris Saint-Germain announce that Warren Zaire-Emery will miss the remainder of 2023 owing to the ankle injury he sustained on his France debut against Gibraltar.

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that 17-year-old midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery will be sidelined until 2024 due to an ankle injury.

The teenager - regarded as one of the most promising prospects in world football - made his senior France debut in Saturday's 14-0 thrashing of Gibraltar in Euro 2024 qualifying, scoring his side's third goal on the night.

However, as Zaire-Emery let fly, he was caught on the ankle by the studs of Ethan Santos - who was given a straight red card - and limped off the field with just 20 minutes on the clock.

France head coach Didier Deschamps stated after the game that Zaire-Emery did not appear to have suffered a fracture, although he was concerned that the 2006-born starlet had sustained a significant sprain.

The latter diagnosis has now been confirmed by PSG, who said in a medical update on Monday: "Victim of a moderately severe sprain to his right ankle, Warren Zaire-Emery will remain in treatment until the winter break."

Zaire-Emery's injury will force the midfielder to sit out PSG's final two Champions League group fixtures against Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United, while his participation in the Trophee des Champions with Toulouse on January 3 is also up in the air.

The 17-year-old had cemented a regular starting place under Luis Enrique in the early stages of the 2023-24 season, scoring two goals and setting up five more in 15 matches, reportedly attracting glances from Manchester City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the process.
