Preview: Iceland Women vs. France Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's Women's European Championship clash between Iceland Women and France Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Iceland Women will be aiming to claim a victory that would guarantee them a place in the Women's Euro 2022 quarter-finals when they face France Women on Monday.

Meanwhile, with top spot in Group D already secured, France head to the New York Stadium in Rotherham without any pressure on their shoulders.

Although Iceland currently sit four points adrift of group leaders France, they head into Monday's encounter in second place.

They opened their Euro 2022 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Belgium before repeating that scoreline in Thursday's meeting with Italy.

Like their group opener, Iceland took the lead on matchday two thanks to a third-minute strike from Karoline Lea Vilhjamsdottir, but a Valentina Bergamaschi equaliser in the second half denied them the victory.

After extending their unbeaten run to five matches, Iceland know that a victory against France will help them secure their second appearance in a major tournament quarter-final.

However, a failure to clinch three points on Monday would open the door for either Italy or Belgium to leapfrog them into second place.

While Iceland have much to play for, France are aware that whatever the result is on Monday, they will participate in the knockout rounds.

Grace Geyoro netted a hat-trick in France's tournament opener, helping her side cruise to a comfortable 5-1 victory over Italy.

Although Thursday's meeting against Belgium proved far trickier than matchday one, Corinne Diacre's side still managed to clinch three points to secure their passage to the quarter-finals.

Kadidiatou Diani saw her opener cancelled out by Janice Cayman, but Griedge Mbock restored France's advantage before half time, with the strike proving to be enough to seal a 2-1 victory.

Not only did the result secure top spot in Group D, but it also extended their winning run to 16 matches, and although they will be looking for another win on Monday, France will have one eye on next week's quarter-final against the team that finishes runner-up in Group C.

After dropping down to the bench against Italy, Sif Atladottir could replace Elisa Vidarsdottir as Iceland's right-back for Monday's contest.

While Vidarsdottir will feature on the right side of the defence, Hallbera Gisladottir will start at left-back, with Glodis Viggosdottir and Gudrun Arnardottir set to form the centre-back pairing.

Berglind Thorvaldsdottir will continue to lead the line for Iceland after scoring two goals in her last three international appearances.

As for France, they have been dealt a blow with the news that Marie-Antoinette Katoto has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Belgium.

With Katoto sidelined, Ouleymata Sarr is expected to be given her first start of the tournament, with the 26-year-old likely to appear in a front three that includes Delphine Cascarino and Diani.

After being left out of the side for the victory over Belgium, Sandie Toletti could return to the starting lineup for the final group game.

Iceland Women possible starting lineup:
Sigurdardottir; Atladottir, Viggosdottir, Arnadottir, Gisladottir; G. Jonsdottir, Brynjarsdottir, Gunnarsdottir; S. Jonsdottir, Vilhalmsdottir, Thorvaldsdottir

France Women possible starting lineup:
Peyraud-Magnin; Perisset, Mbock, Renard, Karchaoui; Geyoro, Bilbault, Toletti; Diani, Cascarino, Sarr

We say: Iceland Women 1-3 France Women

Although France are already guaranteed to finish top of Group D, we think that they will continue their winning run against Iceland as they bid to carry momentum into next week's quarter-final.
