How France could line up against Sweden

Sports Mole looks at how France could line up in Saturday's UEFA Nations League clash with Sweden.

France will be looking to make a positive start to their 2020-21 UEFA Nations League campaign when they take on Sweden in their opening match of the competition on Saturday night.

The world champions failed to progress through the group stages of the 2018-19 tournament, ultimately finishing second behind the Netherlands, who lost to Portugal in the final.

Les Bleus breezed through their European qualification campaign, though, winning eight of their 10 matches to finish top of the section on 25 points.

Didier Deschamps's side will take on Sweden this weekend before hosting Croatia on September 8, while the defending champions Portugal are also in Group 3 of League A.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how France could line up in Solna.

POSS FRA XI vs. SWE

Paul Pogba and Tanguy Ndombele were both forced to withdraw from the France squad after testing positive for coronavirus, meaning that there are spots up for grabs in the middle of the park.

Raphael Varane, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann are all likely to make the starting XI, while there could be a spot in the side for Anthony Martial, who enjoyed an excellent 2019-20 campaign for Manchester United.

Martial has only played once for the national side since 2017 but could feature on the left, with Griezmann and Mbappe also operating as a three in support of Olivier Giroud, who is the leading scorer in the squad.

Leo Dubois is the favourites to feature at right-back, while Clement Lenglet and Ferland Mendy could edge out the likes of Lucas Hernandez and Lucas Digne to start in defence.

There are three uncapped players in the squad, including Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, and the 17-year-old will be desperate to play a part in France's next two internationals.

In-demand Dayot Upamecano, who has been linked with Manchester United this summer, will also be looking for his first cap, having enjoyed an impressive campaign for RB Leipzig.
