How Bayern Munich could line up against Werder Bremen

Sports Mole looks at how Bayern Munich could line up for Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Werder Bremen.

Bayern Munich come into this fixture off the back of a 3-1 Champions League victory over Tottenham Hotspur that saw them win all six group games in the competition for the first time in their history.

It was a welcome victory for the reigning Bundesliga champions, who slipped to seventh in the German top flight after losing 2-1 to table-topping Borussia Monchengladbach in their last league outing.

Hansi Flick's side will be hoping to close the seven-point gap when they face Werder Bremen next in a bid to retain their league crown.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Bayern could line up for Saturday's showdown.

Possible BAY XI vs. WER

Out: Niklas Sule (knee), Lucas Hernandez (ankle), Fiete Arp (arm), Kingsley Coman (knee), Javi Martinez (suspended), Mickael Cuisance (ankle)
Doubtful: Corentin Tolisso (thigh)

Bayern's last outing was a dead-rubber Champions League game against Tottenham and, as such, Flick fielded a somewhat rotated side. However, in this next competitive fixture, a number of key players are set to return to the starting lineup.

Manuel Neuer is an ever-present in the side and will keep his place between the sticks, while Alphonso Davies put in an impressive performance against Spurs and should keep his place at left-back.

Give the absences of Sule and Hernandez to injury and Martinez to suspension, Flick is left with few central defensive options in this one. As a result, he may choose to field a pairing of David Alaba and Benjamin Pavard, both of whom regularly play at full-back, with Joshua Kimmich returning to a right-back berth from the central midfield role he has taken up of late.

In midfield, Thiago is a key member of the side and will keep his place, with Leon Goretzka his likely midfield partner. With Tolisso a doubt and Kimmich likely to be needed at full-back, Bayern's options in midfield are limited as well.

Further forward, Coman's bizarre injury against Spurs will keep him out, with Thomas Muller likely to replace him as he did that night off the bench. Ivan Perisic could also be one to lose out as top-scorer Robert Lewandowski is restored to the starting lineup, with Serge Gnabry switching to the left to accommodate Muller on the right.
