Adil Rashid misses out as England win the toss and opt to bat against Pakistan in the second Test at Old Trafford.

Adil Rashid has been left out of England's 12-man team for the second Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford.

The leg-spinner, who has not played Test cricket for his country in eight months, was battling Moeen Ali for a spot.

However, captain Alastair Cook has opted to stick with Ali, but has replaced Jake Ball and Steven Finn with Ben Stokes and James Anderson.

England won the toss this morning and opted to bat as they attempt to level the four-Test series 1-1 following a 75-run defeat at Lord's in the opening match.

Pakistan's team are unchanged.

England: Cook, Hales, Root, Vince, Ballance, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali, Woakes, Broad, Anderson

Pakistan: Hafeez, Masood, A Ali, Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shafiq, Ahmed, Riaz, Amir, R Ali, Shah
