Wimbledon 2019: What to look out for on day two at SW19

Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber gets her defence up and running against Tatjana Maria on Tuesday.

The likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Ashleigh Barty and Serena Williams are also in action.

Johanna Konta is one of eight Brits who are looking to follow Kyle Edmund and Heather Watson into the second round.

Brits Watch

With Watson and Edmund winning on Monday, the attention turned to the other eight Brits in action on day two. British number one Konta kicks off her championships against Ana Bogdan of Romania, second on Court One. Katie Swan meets Laura Siegemund of Germany and Harriet Dart is up against American Christina McHale. Of the British men in action Cameron Norrie plays Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, Dan Evans faces Argentinian Federico Delbonis, James Ward meets Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili and Jay Clarke takes on American Noah Rubin. In the evening all eyes will be on Paul Jubb, the 19-year-old from Hull who won the prestigious NCAA singles title, when he tackles Joao Sousa of Portugal.

Match of the day

It may not have got top billing on a day when Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Willams, Angelique Kerber and Maria Sharapova are all playing but the match between Donna Vekic and Alison Riske should be keenly contested. Both women are proficient grass-court players, which the seeded Croatian will be favourite to come through.

Potential upsets

Dominic Thiem, seeded fifth, was handed a tough draw against 2016 semi-finalist Sam Querrey and it could leave him vulnerable. The Austrian has not played since his French Open final defeat to Rafael Nadal, while the big-serving American got to the final at Eastbourne last week.
