Garbine Muguruza has exited the Rogers Cup at the second-round stage after losing in straight sets to Lesia Tsurenko.

The number eight seed was beaten 7-5 6-1 by the Ukrainian player in Toronto.

Muguruza lost serve early in the first set but found a response, breaking twice on her way to moving 5-4 up. However, she missed the opportunity to serve out the set as Tsurenko broke to love to level the scores.

The world number 54 held serve to go 5-6 up before breaking her Spanish opponent again to claim the first set.

Tsurenko made a blistering start to the second set, winning two of Muguruza's service games while holding her own to race into a 5-0 lead.

Muguruza finally got on the board as she held serve in the sixth game, but Tsurenko made no mistake in serving out the set and the match to take her place in the third round.
