Rory McIlroy rounds off a positive season by winning the PGA Tour Player of the Year award.

Rory McIlroy has been named the PGA Tour Player of the Year for the second time in three years.

The award has arrived following a year in which the 25-year-old won the British Open and the PGA Championship, as well as the World Golf Championship.

Those triumphs helped to elevate the Northern Irishman to the top of the world rankings, as did 12 finishes within the top 10 of events that he competed in.

He was also a member of the European side that retained the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles at the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Rookie of the Year award has gone to 27-year-old American Chesson Hadley.
