The England captain moved clear of Jermain Defoe's mark.

Harry Kane's goal helped Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Kane fired the ball into the top corner early in the second half of Spurs' 1-0 second-leg win to score his 24th European club goal and pass the club-record total set by Jermain Defoe.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a look at the numbers behind Tottenham's top three European scorers.

Kane has scored 14 goals in 17 Champions League appearances for Spurs.

The forward's first European goal, though, came during the Europa League Group A match at Shamrock Rovers, scoring in the last minute as Spurs completed a 4-0 win in December 2011. It was Kane's only senior goal for Spurs before he headed out on loan to Millwall. Defoe also scored in the match.

Kane went on to score a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Greek side Asteras Tripoli – when he ended the game in goal after Hugo Lloris was sent off.

His first Champions League goal came in the Group E 2-1 defeat at Monaco in November 2016, and the following season the England forward scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 away win at Apoel Nicosia.

Striker Defoe had two permanent spells at Tottenham, from 2004 until 2008 before returning to the club from Portsmouth just over a year later. Six of Defoe's European goals for Spurs came in the now defunct UEFA Cup.

During August 2010, he scored in the 4-0 Champions League qualifying win over Swiss club Young Boys, then twice in the Group A match against FC Twente.

Defoe grabbed a Europa League hat-trick in the 3-1 home win over Maribor during the group stages in November 2012.

His last European goal for Spurs came from the penalty spot against Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol at White Hart Lane on November 7, 2013.

All of Chivers' European goals for Spurs came in the UEFA Cup during the early 1970s – including helping the team win the trophy.

Chivers opened his 1971/72 account with a hat-trick in the 9-0 second leg win over Icelandic outfit IBK Keflavik – Spurs completing a remarkable 15-1 aggregate victory. He was also on target in both legs of the third round win over Rapid Bucuresti.

The forward scored twice at Molineux in the first leg of the 1972 UEFA Cup final against English rivals Wolves, which Spurs went on to win 3-2 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw back at White Hart Lane.

Chivers continued his fine European form into the following campaign, scoring five goals in the tie against Lyn Oslo, including a hat-trick in the second leg.

Chivers' last European goal for Tottenham came in the semi-final of the 1973–74 UEFA Cup, scoring in the second leg against Lokomotive Leipzig. In the final that season, Spurs were beaten by Feyenoord, losing 4-2 over two legs.

The striker's tally of 22 goals came from 32 European appearances.
