New Real Madrid signing Ferland Mendy picked up an abductor problem in his left leg during the club's 1-0 win over Sevilla on Sunday.

Real Madrid's new signing Ferland Mendy has picked up a fresh injury after suffering a problem with his abductor muscle during the club's 1-0 win over Sevilla.

The full-back, who moved to the Bernabeu from Lyon for a fee of £49m over the summer, missed the opening two games of Real's domestic season with a hamstring injury.

Mendy, having played the full 90 minutes in Andalusia, was visibly injured as he came off and later had an ice pack on the affected area.

In a club statement released on Tuesday, the club said: "Following tests carried out today on Ferland Mendy by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he was has been diagnosed with an abductor muscle injury in his left leg.

"His recovery will be assessed."

The injury to Mendy gives Zinedine Zidane a headache over the left-back area, with Marcelo also sidelined due to a neck problem.

Other injured players at Real include Luka Modric and Marco Asensio, whose cruciate ligament injury is set to keep him sidelined until at least February.
