How Real Madrid could line up against Girona

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up in Thursday's Copa del Rey quarter-final first leg with Girona.

Real Madrid will welcome Girona to the Bernabeu for the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final on Thursday night.

Los Blancos overcame Leganes in the round of 16 courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate score, while Girona shocked Atletico Madrid to make the final eight of the competition.

Real Madrid have won the Copa del Rey on 19 occasions, but have not landed the trophy since 2014, with Barcelona utterly dominating the competition in recent years.

Los Blancos have actually only landed the Copa del Rey on two occasions since 1993, meanwhile, but it might well represent their best chance of silverware this season due to their inconsistent La Liga form.

Here, Sports Mole has taken a look at how Real Madrid could line up against Girona this week.

Out: Jesus Vallejo (hamstring), Gareth Bale (calf), Keylor Navas (abductor tear), Marco Asensio (muscle)

Real Madrid's squad has been boosted with Toni Kroos, Marcos Llorente and Mariano Diaz all returning to training ahead of Thursday's clash at the Bernabeu.

The trio were back in full contact training on Tuesday and could all be involved in the squad against Girona, which is excellent news for head coach Santiago Solari when considering his selection issues in recent weeks.

However, Keylor Navas, Jesus Vallejo, Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio are all still on the sidelines for the European champions.

Vinicius Junior has been Real Madrid's standout attacker in recent matches and the Brazilian will again start in the final third of the field.

Isco could also be handed another chance to impress, although the Spaniard's form in recent weeks has been extremely disappointing amid suggestions that he wants to leave Los Blancos.

Alvaro Odriozola and Federico Valverde should also start, while Marcelo and Nacho are expected to come into the back four having been left on the bench against Sevilla at the weekend.
