Michael Owen backs Mason Greenwood to enjoy a positive future at Manchester United following the youngster's display against Astana.

Michael Owen has predicted Mason Greenwood to have a long career at the top with Manchester United following the youngster's performance against Astana.

The 17-year-old, making just his second senior start for the Red Devils, scored the winning goal against the Kazakhstani champions with some shrewd play in the box.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously insisted that Greenwood, even at such a young age, was one of the best finishers he'd ever seen.

Reacting to Greenwood's display against Astana on BT Sport, Owen said: "He'll have a part to play in the Premier League no question.

"His goal record at youth level is phenomenal. In my mind he's gonna be a proper Manchester United player for a long, long time."

The Red Devils are reportedly working on a long-term contract for Greenwood, who Solskjaer wants to play a big part at Old Trafford this season.

Following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, the teenager will receive numerous chances to impress over a nine-month season.
