Former England striker Gary Lineker has described Paul Pogba's return to Manchester United as a "watershed moment" for the Premier League.

The 23-year-old completed his world-record move to Old Trafford in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with United shelling out £89m just four years after the midfielder left on a free.

The Premier League has seen a number of top players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez, leave for Spain in recent years, but Lineker believes that Pogba will be the first of many world-class players to come to England in their prime.

"The signing of Pogba by Manchester United is a watershed moment for the Premier League. First time a huge foreign star in his prime has come to England," he wrote on Twitter.

"Given the wealth of the Premier League more of the greats will come here and not just to Barca and Real Madrid. Interesting times."

Pogba's fee eclipses the previous world-record transfer which saw Bale move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid.
