Champions League-winning Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly considering a year-long break from football at the end of his current contract in 2022.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could reportedly take a year-long break from football when his current contract comes to an end in 2022.

The Reds are understood to be keen to hand Klopp a new deal with improved and extended terms after he led them to Champions League glory against Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.

The 51-year-old also oversaw his side reaching 97 points in the Premier League during a memorable 2018-19 campaign, having previously been beaten in the finals of the Europa League in 2016 and the Champions League last year.

Klopp's achievements on Merseyside have seen him heralded as one of the world's best managers, but ESPN reports that he could take a sabbatical from the sport in three years' time.

The German is not expected to leave Liverpool before the end of his contract, but he has expressed his desire to take a 12-month break from the stresses of management in the past.

Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group are keen not to put too much pressure on the manager and will reportedly only offer him improved terms if Klopp himself requests them.
