Luis Garcia tips Liverpool to beat Atletico Madrid

Luis Garcia, who enjoyed Champions League success with Liverpool in 2005, is backing the current European champions to overturn their deficit against Atletico Madrid.

Former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid striker Luis Garcia has tipped Jurgen Klopp's side to overcome Atletico when the two clubs meet for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

The European champions find themselves 1-0 down on aggregate heading into Wednesday's match, as Saul Niguez's goal ensured Diego Simeone's side triumphed in the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Nevertheless, Garcia, who enjoyed stints at both clubs throughout his career, believes that the Reds have enough quality to keep their hopes of back-to-back Champions League titles alive.

Speaking to Liverpool's official website, Garcia said: "[I think it will be] tough for both sides, to be honest. They know Anfield is a tough stadium and not many teams get out alive; the crowd always helps the home team. [But] actually, they know [Diego] Simeone knows how to deal with these kinds of situations.

"After what we saw in the Metropolitano, where they were working the way they normally do – defending very well, waiting for the chance and the fast transitions and counter-attacks they do so well – they still think they can make it.

"And then the other way around, knowing Liverpool and after being there many times in many situations where Liverpool needed to score goals and managed it, they know what Anfield can be if they need to score one, two or three goals.

"I'm quite positive, to be honest. I think Liverpool have the power, quality and talent to overcome the situation and go through to the next round."

Liverpool have lost three of their last five games in all competitions, but are only two wins away from securing a first Premier League crown as they sit 25 points clear at the top of the table.
