Gylfi Sigurdsson believes that Everton have signed him at just the right time as he is approaching his footballing peak.

Gylfi Sigurdsson has claimed that Everton have signed him just as he is approaching the pinnacle of his career.

The Iceland international, who has just turned 28, joined the Toffees in August from Swansea City for a club-record £45m including add-ons.

Sigurdsson scored 30 goals in three seasons for Swansea and no player has scored more from direct free kicks since 2012 in the Premier League.

"I'm getting to the stage of my career when I'll be playing my best football," he told Sky Sports News. "Hopefully I can continue my development over the next few years."

He also claims that he is unfazed over his price tag, adding: "It doesn't bother me - but the money being spent in football is crazy. These things don't really get to me. I'm focused on doing the right things for the team."

Everton spent over £100m on eight signings this summer and have also recruited Wayne Rooney and Cuco Martina on free transfers.
