Jamie Carragher: 'Diego Simeone could record greatest achievement ever'

Jamie Carragher believes that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone could record the "greatest managerial achievement" ever if his side win the Champions League.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Diego Simeone will have recorded the "greatest managerial achievement of all time" if Atletico Madrid win the Champions League.

Simeone's side have already clinched the La Liga title for the first time in 18 years and now face off against rivals Real Madrid in the final of Europe's top competition.

Carragher feels that if the 44-year-old can guide Atletico to their first Champions League crown he will trump the achievements of the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Bob Paisley.

He wrote in his column in the Daily Mail: "For Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid's manager, Saturday night's collision with Real Madrid in Lisbon presents him with an opportunity to put the gloss on an extraordinary season, and complete what could be the greatest managerial achievement of all time.

"This is all about context and what Simeone has achieved since he became Atletico manager on December 23, 2011 is extraordinary.

"If he is to mastermind another victory over his neighbours, who are the richest club in the world, Simeone would stand alone."

Atletico face Real in the final of the Champions League in Lisbon later today.
