Arsene Wenger: 'Coin throwers are a disgrace'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger labels fans who threw coins in FA Cup ties over the weekend "a disgrace".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has labelled fans who threw coins at FA Cup games over the weekend "a disgrace".

Two police investigations are underway after West Bromwich Albion veteran Chris Brunt was hit by a coin by one of his own fans, a day before Chelsea supporters hurled coins at Manchester City teenager David Faupala at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Wenger insisted that the problem of abuse from the stands - physical and verbal - has been growing for some time.

"I would say that for years, people in the stands feel they can get away with everything," he said. "The media played their little part in that.

"You are insulted regularly from the stands without people feeling that they can get punished for it. So of course it always goes one step further and the incidents over the weekend were for me a disgrace, not acceptable.

"Even if you pay your ticket you can still respect people and I believe that it is just not acceptable."

Metropolitan Police have made one arrest in the Chelsea incident, while Brunt has called on his abuser to 'own up' to his actions.
