The best resolution may be to leave Ceballos as the most advanced of a midfield three, with Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira left to do the dirty work in the middle third of the pitch.
That would leave Coutinho to feature on the left flank, although the 27-year-old would have the option of moving inside with Sead Kolasinac one of the most attacking full-backs in the Premier League.
With Pepe effectively guaranteed a role on the right, Emery would have to choose between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexander Lacazette for the lone striker position.
Having finished as joint-top goalscorer in England's top flight during the most recent campaign, the former would expect to get the nod from his manager.
