Anneka Rice could reportedly return for a new series of Challenge Anneka on Channel 5.

Anneka Rice is reportedly in talks with Channel 5 about a surprise revival of her Challenge Anneka series.

The much-loved show was a staple of the BBC's Saturday night TV schedules in the 1990s and followed Rice as she took on a huge task - such as building an orphanage or a new playground - in just a few days, doing her best to persuade businesses and individuals to donate their time and resources to get the job done.

Challenge Anneka last aired on the BBC in 1995, returning briefly to ITV for two specials in 2006 and 2007, and now The Sun says that Channel 5 is interested in a new full series.

"There's a real taste for bringing back classic shows right now, given viewers' thirst for nostalgia," a source told the newspaper.

"Anneka is hopeful a deal can be struck as she believes there is still plenty of life in the format and that she can also attract a new, younger audience.

"It was a much-loved show with good intentions, so there's no reason why it can't continue where it left off."

Channel 5, which previously brought back Blind Date, has yet to comment on the report.
