HBO confirm that Westworld has been picked up for a fourth season ahead of next week's season three finale.

HBO have confirmed that futuristic thriller Westworld has been renewed for a fourth season.

The news comes ahead of next week's season three finale and despite a noticeable drop in ratings, with Variety reporting roughly a 50% decline in viewership compared to season two.

Announcing the renewal, Casey Bloys, president of programming at HBO, said: "From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we've thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. We can't wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next."

The network have yet to confirm the episode count for season four - the first two seasons ran for 10 episodes each, but season three has eight - nor when the new run will air, with most TV productions currently on hold due to coronavirus.

The show airs on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
