BT Sport ESPN to rebrand as BT Sport 4

BT Sport ESPN to rebrand as BT Sport 4
BT Sport ESPN is to become known as BT Sport 4 ahead of the new football season.

BT Sport is to lose the ESPN branding from its channel portfolio ahead of the new football season kicking off next month.

The BT Sport ESPN channel launched in 2013, replacing ESPN UK following BT's acquisition of the broadcaster's UK operations.

From August 1 the service will be renamed BT Sport 4, although the schedule - mostly comprising coverage of MLB and American college sports - will remain unchanged.

On the same date BT will also rebrand its six overflow channels from BT Sport Extra 1 to BT Sport Extra 6 as BT Sport 5 to BT Sport 10.

The stations remain accessible through the EPG for BT TV and Virgin Media customers, while Sky subscribers can continue to access the additional streams through the red button.

Further tweaks to the BT Sport channel lineup may follow over the next year as the broadcaster's merger with Discovery-owned Eurosport goes ahead.
