Five-time champion Tiger Woods confirms that he plans to participate in the Masters at Augusta.

Tiger Woods has confirmed that he plans to participate in the Masters at Augusta, an appearance which would represent his first professional appearance in 14 months.

In February 2021, Woods sustained two broken legs in a car accident, it later emerging that the American was fortunate not to have one of his legs amputated.

Even after partnering his son Charlie at a tournament in December, Woods gave every indication that playing at Augusta, a course full of inclines, was not a realistic target.

However, Woods made the journey to Georgia last week, playing a full practice round and taking the opportunity to scout the course, and it now appears that the five-time champion will line up in the field on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Woods said: "As of right now, I feel like I am going to play. My recovery has been good. I've been very excited with how I have recovered each and every day.

"That has been the challenge. That is why I came up here and tested it out for 27 holes. It's about the recovery and how I get all of the swelling out and recover for the next day."

As it stands, Woods is expected to play nine more holes in preparation for the first major of the event, although that is dependent on storms which are forecast over the next 36 hours.
