Former Denmark international Michael Laudrup questions the strength of the Barcelona squad in the aftermath of the club's 2-1 defeat to Alaves.

Former Denmark international Michael Laudrup has questioned whether Barcelona have the squad to compete with Real Madrid across three separate competitions this season.

The Catalan giants brought in the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Andre Gomes and Lucas Digne in the summer, while Denis Suarez also re-joined the Spanish champions to boost their midfield options.

However, without Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi fully fit, Barcelona lost 2-1 to Alaves in La Liga at the weekend and Laudrup, who has played for both the Catalan club and Real Madrid, has questioned the strength of Luis Enrique's squad.

"If you cannot beat Alaves without Messi or Suarez starting, then you have a problem," Laudrup told Cadena Cope. "Real Madrid have a very good squad, I do not see a weakness and they are in a strong shape for two years at least."

Laudrup last managed Qatari side Lekhwiya during the 2014-15 campaign.
