How Real Madrid could line up against Espanyol

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up in Sunday's La Liga clash with Espanyol.

Real Madrid will be looking for their third straight La Liga win when they travel to an out-of-form Espanyol on Sunday night.

Los Blancos have won four of their last five in all competitions, but still sit 10 points off La Liga leaders Barcelona after 20 matches of the 2018-19 campaign.

Santiago Solari's team will enter the match off the back of a 4-2 win over Girona in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final on Thursday night.

Results and indeed performances have improved in recent weeks, but Los Blancos suffered a 1-0 defeat at Espanyol in the corresponding fixture last season.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how Real could line up on their return to La Liga action.

POSS RM XI vs. ESP

Out: Jesus Vallejo (hamstring), Keylor Navas (abductor tear)
Doubtful: Gareth Bale (calf), Marco Asensio (muscle)

Madrid have been boosted by the news that Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio returned to training on Friday, but it seems unlikely that the pair will be involved this weekend.

Bale has been out with a calf problem since the start of the month, while Asensio has been on the sidelines since the latter stages of 2018.

Marcos Llorente and Toni Kroos both made their returns from injury off the bench against Girona on Thursday, meanwhile, and it appears that the pair could come into the XI this weekend.

Raphael Varane will also be back in the starting side, but Isco remains seriously out of favour at the Bernabeu and the Spaniard will be fortunate to make the bench on Sunday.

Second-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas is closing in on a return to fitness and according to Marca, Solari's plan is to play the Costa Rican against Girona in the Copa del Rey next week.
