Ole Gunnar Solskjaer affirms that Manchester United are in "good dialogue" with Edinson Cavani over the Uruguayan striker's contract situation.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that the club are in discussions with Edinson Cavani as he runs down the clock on his Red Devils contract.

The 34-year-old's Old Trafford future remains shrouded in uncertainty with his contract due to expire in three months' time, and he has been tipped to return to South America with Boca Juniors.

However, Man United do have the option to extend Cavani's contract by a further year, and Solskjaer has confirmed that the two parties are in "good dialogue" as rumours over his next career move continue to swirl.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final with Leicester City, the Red Devils manager said: "We're speaking to Eddy.

"Edinson is a top striker and whatever he decides to do, let's see. We're in good dialogue with him. We want a competitive squad and we need someone up there to score the goals for us. So we're looking at it."

Cavani has struck six goals and provided two assists in 18 Premier League appearances this term, and he recently expressed confidence in United's ability to win a trophy this season.
