Xabi Alonso is reportedly set to become Borussia Monchengladbach's new head coach at the end of the season, replacing Borussia Dortmund-bound Marco Rose.

Xabi Alonso is reportedly set to become head coach of Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, which would see him make his first step into a top managerial role.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder is currently in charge of Real Sociedad B, guiding the Spanish club's reserve side to top of the Segunda Division B.

Monchengladbach will be left without a manager when Marco Rose replaces Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bundesliga club have lined up Alonso as Rose's replacement.

The German side have recently been on a poor run of form, losing eight of their last 10 games including being knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City, making the chances of European football next season unlikely.

Monchengladbach currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga with eight league games to play.
