Top five Premier League transfer targets in January.

With the awakening of a New Year, many things are being questioned - especially after the year that 2020 provided us with. However, one of the main priorities for sports fans is the Premier League transfer targets in January. So, will Liverpool be likely to make a move for a defender? Is it possible that Dele Alli will finally leave Tottenham? Well, the betting sites also have odds on who will transfer and where to. This means that if you're looking for football betting tips, you could benefit from wagering on winter transfers. Well, the transfer window takes place between January 2 and February 1, so now is the time for clubs to get themselves engaged.

Even though there was a summer transfer window in the middle of 2020, the winter transfer window allows clubs to sort out pre-contract deals for players in foreign leagues whose deals are up in the summer. So, who could be transferring in the Premier League in the winter window? And if not in winter there is also the chance that some of these players will move to England next summer, since they are already targeted by some of the big Premier League clubs. We will soon find out.

Lionel Messi – Barcelona

It was in the summer of 2020 that Argentine player was said to be leaving Barcelona. At the time, it was said that he believed he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to escape the confines of the team. Sources suggested that Messi was unhappy with the way that the Spanish team was being run, and those feelings seem to have remained since.

Messi hasn't signed a new contract going into January, and this is an important factor for the Premier League clubs. Nothing has pointed towards him proceeding with signing a new contract, either. It's thought that Manchester City is the location that Messi will transfer to, and there, he could reunite with his former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola. However, Guardiola has spoken of wanting Messi to end his career with Barcelona, considering that that's where he's spent a lot of his career.

Sergio Ramos – Real Madrid

A move away from Real Madrid is what is expected for Sergio Ramos, and that has been the case for a while now. Could 2021 see him appear as part of the English Premier League? As one of the world's most unique centre-back players, Ramos has scored over 100 goals for Los Blancos, and some of them have been absolutely vital to Real Madrid's success in the Champions League and other tournaments.

Despite the fact that Ramos seems quite happy with his Real Madrid side, rumours of him leaving have been swirling for some time. And even though he has hit the age of 34, many believe he still has plenty of gameplay left in him. The likelihood is that he would fit perfectly into the defence line-up of any Premier League club. The only question that remains is can any of the teams within afford to purchase him?

Hakan Calhanoglu – AC Milan

Serie A has definitely reaped the benefits of having Calhanoglu perform in it, and AC Milan has been the benefactor. He's created 46 chances in this season, and that's at least 14 more than any other player within the league. Despite this, sources point to the possibility of this being his final season with the Italian team.

One thing that Calhanoglu has on his side is his age, too. At just 26, his performances in the last 18 months have seen him on many teams' radars, with the most likely transfer on the books being to Manchester United. His current deal with Milan is up next summer, and thanks to his young age, it's likely that he has yet reached his peak of performance. That being said, if AC Milan is able to offer him a good deal to re-sign, the Turkish player could hold firm in his current position.

David Alaba – Bayern Munich

David Alaba has managed to gain prominence thanks to being such a brilliant utility man, and he's capable of offering a top-class performance regardless of where he's positioned. The Austrian could be a prime attribute to any Premier League club, and with his contract with Bayern being up this summer and no sign of a renewal ahead, Alaba could find himself transferred to an England side.

He's already been associated with a move to Chelsea this season as a way of bolstering the team's ranks in centre-back and left-back positions. That would create space for both Marcos Alonso and Emerson to be transferred elsewhere. At the same time, Ben Chilwell will be able to garner exceptional experience from his arrival there.

Even though he's been with Bayern for a nine-year period, he's still only 28-years-old. Therefore, he still has a good few years remaining in him that would likely allow him to play at the top level, with the Premier League definitely capable of benefitting from his talents.

Florian Thauvin – Marseille

Thauvin was a part of the Premier League once before, joining Newcastle United in August of 2015. He signed a five-year deal for a reported £15 million. However, it was in January of the following year that Newcastle made the announcement that Thauvin would return to Marseille on loan for the rest of the season. Later on in the year, a clause was inserted into his contract that allowed Marseille to make Thauvin's deal there permanent.

While Thauvin failed to ignite any sort of spark under St James' Park, he has since become one of the world's best, and he's one of the most impressive attackers in Ligue 1. He's assisted with a great set of goals and even scored a hefty bundle himself. What's more, this season, he has been directly involved in 12 goals, scoring six and recording six assists alongside. His contract at Marseille is up this summer though, and this means that he could return for another Premier League run.ID:429240:cQx
