Inter Miami are reportedly confident that Lionel Messi is close to agreeing a deal to join the MLS franchise when his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi is reportedly closing in on a move to MLS side Inter Miami.

The 35-year-old is currently representing his country at the World Cup where he has scored in both of Argentina's opening two games, including a strike from the edge of the box in Saturday's 2-0 win over Mexico.

Although Messi is focused on Argentina's World Cup campaign, his club future remains in doubt with his PSG contract set to expire at the end of the season.

While PSG are expected to offer Messi a new contract, he has also been linked with a return to Barcelona, but there is now speculation that he could be heading to the MLS.

According to The Mirror, Messi is close to agreeing a deal to join Inter Miami, with the MLS franchise confident that he will sign after the World Cup.

Inter Miami are co-owned by David Beckham, and his involvement is believed to be a key part of the deal, as he has a direct line of contact with the PSG owners in his role as an ambassador for the Qatar World Cup.

Messi is also understood to have a home in Miami, where he holidays with his family, and there is a belief that location will play a part in a possible move.

The former Barcelona star is currently preparing for Argentina's final group game against Poland on Wednesday.
